October 2011 to June 2012, Course objectives and entrance qualifications:
This university advanced course for surgery is meant for graduates in Medicine and Surgery or Nursing that already had followed a basic course on a similar matter, or graduates who already have in their background two previous volunteering missions in developing countries.

This course is meant to illustrate and analyze issues typical of developing countries, such as tropical illnesses, venomous bites or children emergency care, and issues typical of health emergencies, natural disasters or conflicts, such as crushing damage, gunfire wounds or complex traumas.

This course is specifically meant to teach its students practical skills such as: emergency FAST ultrasound scan, emergency pregnancy scan, emergency first aid, urinary retention drainage and other invasive maneuvers.

Finally the knowledge acquired during the course will be put into practice in a 20 days stage at an African hospital with an Italian or local supervisor who will be able to help and evaluate the student.
